Blumen Gardens through the Years…
Since 1989, Blumen Gardens has evolved from a small garden design business into a full-service landscaping company with a year-round garden center.
What began as a humble horticultural endeavor in Joan & Joel Barczak’s backyard has grown into an award-winning landscape design business and garden center harboring a huge selection of flowers. It now inhabits over 4,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for their retail Gift & Garden Shop and Event Rental Facility.
The Blumen Gardens campus also boasts an on-site Plant Nursery from which it supplies the Landscape Construction and Maintenance Divisions and grows its own plants for the retail garden shop as well.
Over the past 20 years, Joan & Joel have refurbished and re-purposed the property’s historic factory and surrounding structures, giving Blumen Gardens its distinct ambient setting.
In previous years, the historic factory at 403 Edward Street has been the home to a multitude of manufacturing companies since 1869. Most notable tenants are:
- Marsh Harvester, the factory’s first tenant, 1869 – 1881
- Reuben Ellwood (Sycamore’s 1st Mayor) Manufacturing, 1875 – 1892
- And a long succession of wire manufacturing companies including Anaconda.
Much change has come to this old industrial mecca of Sycamore and much progress is still ensuing as Blumen Gardens grows and continuously changes throughout the seasons and years! Come experience it for yourself.
